STVGA Members Newsletter August 2017

Committee Meeting

Your committee met on Tuesday 8th August at 12.00pm (A copy is available of the minutes on the STVGA website)

The committee has given the go ahead for the implementation of online booking of tee times.

This means that over time we will be doing away with our old and clunky (but very workable) system of masonite boards at our venues.

Over the next few weeks at golf we will be asking that you confirm your email addresses with us and soon after, these addresses with receive an email informing you of your USER NAME and PASSWORD to allow you to log in.

Golfers who already use online bookings via SLICE SOFTWARE at their home club will be given the choice between booking at their home club or Southern Vets.

We are very aware of the needs of members who do not have email addresses and will be taking steps to help ensure that this initiative will work for all members.

In simple terms, if one player in a regular foursome has email and access to the system (by computer or smart phone), that player can book in on behalf of the entire group. Failing that, both Captain Don Scott and I will be able to book in groups and individuals into preferred tee times.

We feel that this initiative is a positive one and very much worth the inevitable teething problems we may encounter as we roll it out. Please take the opportunity to discuss the system with committee members.

“Goodwill Tournament” is to be played at Claremont Golf Club on November the 20th 2017 (Shotgun start) and is promoted by the Tasmanian Veterans Golfers Union

This event is important for two reasons. One it is a chance for STVGA members to enjoy a great day all finishing together. Secondly to meet and greet and share the day with members of the NTVGA Northern Tasmanian Golfers Association, who reciprocate by running a “Goodwill Tournament” in the north which all STVGA members are invited.

Whilst the “Goodwill Tournaments” have’ been around for many years. The TVGU and its affiliates (that’s STVGA & NTVGA) believe that these events should be the statewide showcase of the veteran golfing fraternity.

As a committee we are hopeful of all members supporting the events.

More info will be made available as it comes to hand.

Many years ago we held an aggregate competition over a 3 week period at 3 different country courses. It was deemed very successful.

Subsequently your committee is preparing and planning to run a Trifecta in February 2018. Keep your ear to the ground or eye to the screen as this event is advertised.

Sadly our former captain and current committee member Ray Gibson tendered his resignation from our committee. Ray has taken on the role of Secretary / Treasurer of the Australian Veterans Golfers Union. It appears that the AVGU constitution does not allow him to continue his work with our STVGA and the state body TVGU.

Ray will still be amongst us though as a player and occasional duty officer.

Committee members thanked Ray for his strong contribution towards STVGA by word and acclamation.

Just a reminder that we all should carry sand buckets and repair divots and plug marks (When we see them even if they are not our own). From observation not all divots on fairways are created by the Sunday Cowboys. But a few belong to us.

It is imperative that all players attend at least 30 mins prior to the booked time.

This allows Duty Officers to have control over scheduling gap cover for anyone who has had to drop out. Walking in just prior to your time is not acceptable and may cause you to be placed with another group.

REMEMBER Our Captain has a designated phone number for STVGA business. You can call him, text him or leave a message for him on: 0456211697
